Description: Using mRNA null alleles, we investigated the role of FT and TSF in flowering. The single mutants showed no significant impact, but the double mutant displayed photoperiod-insensitivity. Furthermore, this double mutant fully suppressed early flowering caused by CO overexpression. Biochemical assays revealed similar functions for FT and TSF, supported by their interaction with identical bZIP transcription factors in yeast. Additionally, early flowering was induced in the double mutant by expressing FT or TSF from phloem companion cell-specific promoters, indicating no necessity for gene expression in the meristem.
